Electronic (CDI ) Ignition for your Mc - Kart or Saw Engine |
No more coils points or condensors |
Note after the origional coil has been removed these units are pressed onto there
saws origional laminations which is 9mm. It is recomended that the two outer laminations be bent outwards thereby locking the module in place. |
Note chainsaws should benefit as they work in 2 phases idle or wide open throttle
there is little need for a mid range. |
The Phelon CDI unit i fitted to the SP 125 or SP 105 Powerhead |
Will fit the 10 series of Macs except those like the SP81e, PM800, PM805 and Double Eagle 80.which used different coil laminations to mount the coil. |
This unit also fits the early 10 series McCullochs, But will need the H/T lead changed
to a slightly longer length i have fitted one of these units to a Super Pro
81 as the origional coil failed and these parts are no longer available so i
retrofitted the CDI unit and it works just fine. |
G'day McBob , just managed to get 2 Poulan 2000 chainsaws going following your advice on your web page about Phelon ignitions , these 2 saws had no spark (coil) ,got 2 coils of Ryobi brush cutters in both instances the coils were the same , just had to lengthen the coil leads , hey presto spark , bit of fuel down the carb and they both ran (rekitted both carbs) and they run as sweet as thanks for that info I'm going to see if I can adapt it to other applications. thanks again for the info, speak to you soon Peter |

The black Phelon Electronic ignition unit fitted to my Mac's comes from the
Ryobi lawn edgers ( whipper snippers ). The Phelon units slide straight onto the Mac centre post as shown in the pic to your left. To retain the unit after fitting i bend the two outer laminations of the centre post which locks the ignition unit in place. I found epoxieing the unit on didn't work for two long and let the module slide down and rub the flywheel and presto no more spark. These modules will fit the Standard series of Mac's ie; 1-53, 1-40, and the 250, 450, 550. Now they also fit the later SP125C as its 2 legged post is 9mm same as the 3 legged. |

There's another option in the bag of tricks worth considering if the Origional coil
has tested to be OK, and thats to fit an ignition module which replaces both
the points and condensor. Their only shortcoming is it still has joins or screw together wire joins which really is not a secure way of attaching two wires together. |

I have seen these on Ebay for less than $15-00 plus postage. |
